Omega (Final Fantasy XV) (2024)

Man forges a weapon to fell the gods: 'Omega'. The weapon knows nothing of compassion—only destruction. [...] Its might knows no equal. The wise dare not cross its path, lest they meet their end.

Gentiana

Omega is an optional superboss in the Insomnia Ruins dungeon exclusive to the Royal Edition expansion and the PC version of Final Fantasy XV. It is a warmech associated with the ancient civilization of Solheim, entering the battle through a portal identical to the platforms in various Solheimian ruins, such as the Costlemark Tower and the Pitioss Ruins. The party calls its appearance "interdimensional nonsense". Through the Ω-Files discovered around the world the player can read about Omega's discovery as an ancient magitek weapon.

Omega pays homage to the boss's previous appearances in the series, being on the same level as the boss in Final Fantasy V and yielding a trophy item, the Omega Badge, when defeated. It being an ancient war machine built to kill gods is also a homage to its origins, but also fits into the story of Solheim.

Omega is also a superboss in Final Fantasy XV: Comrades.

Bestiary[]

Mechanized weapon of deicidal destruction born of the ancient civilization of Solheim. Constructed during the peak of magiteknological prosperity, this quadrupedal robot long dwelled in the deepest recesses of Taelpar Crag, untouched and inactive. The empire succeeded in recovering and refurbishing the weapon, but were unable to unravel the mysteries behind its mechanical operations. It was only when a certain king was born that Omega's systems went online once more.

Battle[]

Omega (Final Fantasy XV) (1)

Omega appears when the player enters the eastern area of the Insomnia Ruins. It is docile, and the player must engage it to battle it.

Omega is arguably the toughest opponent due to its incredible damage mitigation properties. Its base defense stats are second to none and has 99% resistance to normal weaponry and elemental magic, with exceptions to lightning (20% resistance) and light (absorbs). It heavily resists damage from summons and is immune to Arcana magic from the Ring of the Lucii. When paired with its powerful moveset that even the Magitek Exosuit cannot block, Omega will shrug off most attacks while dealing devastating damage that can quickly wipe out a max-level party with endgame equipment. Additionally, Carbuncle is unavailable for this battle.

Omega can be attacked on its legs, head, back, and antenna. The legs break after receiving some damage, and it will temporarily fall into a vulnerable state once all four of its legs are broken. Omega is unable to move or attack while vulnerable, and dealing enough damage to its head makes it pop out, allowing the player to execute a unique cross chain.

Omega receives double damage when attacked on its antenna, but striking it repeatedly will drive it berserk for a limited time. It will indicate that it is about to become berserk by briefly standing still, before summoning a temporary forcefield that inflicts damage and Stop to those in its immediate vicinity. While berserk, Omega will charge around the battlefield, attack much faster and become immune to the royal arms, but lose its 99% resistance to normal weapons.

Omega (Final Fantasy XV) (2)

Omega possesses a variety of deadly attacks that will decrease the party's maximum HP despite not being a daemon. These include a red laser that shoots out of its antenna which causes Confusion, a swift melee stomp, a smokescreen it exhausts from its back that inflicts Stone and Poison, and a large blue beam it charges and blasts from its cannon that strikes multiple times and bypasses the Danger state to immediately down those caught in it should their HP fall to 0. It can also teleport briefly to either move away or pounce on the player.

After Omega's HP drops below 50%, it will increase the frequency of its attacks and begin launching homing missiles that apply a unique vulnerable status on impact. This status cannot be resisted nor cured and lasts roughly 20 seconds, during which Omega will repeatedly fire a blast from its eye that will down the affected party member in one hit if it lands.

Omega drops the Rare Metal accessory when defeated, which gives Noctis an enormous strength boost and allows him to break the damage limit without Armiger Unleashed, but severely reduces his defense and cuts his maximum HP by 90% in exchange. Only one Rare Metal can be in the Inventory.

Strategy[]

The Omega's might knew no equal–until today!

Noctis Lucis Caelum

Since many of Omega's attacks do colossal damage, the player will fare better by avoiding attacks rather than withstanding them by equipping gear that boosts HP and Vitality. The player should instead focus on offensive boosts, such as the Scientia-Style Sushi, which increases the party's Strength and Magic by 75% and makes all attacks critical. If the player has completed Final Fantasy XV: Episode Ardyn, Ardyn's Ensemble grants immunity to Omega's laser attacks while greatly boosting Magic.

Omega's 99% resistance to normal weapons forces the player to use the royal arms. The Sword of the Father and the Trident of the Oracle excel over other royal arms due to their higher overall DPS and smaller HP-drain.

Omega (Final Fantasy XV) (3)

As Omega is least resistant to lightning, it is advised to use Ignis's Enhancement to imbue Noctis's weapons with this element to increase his physical damage. Powerful lightning magic, such as Quintcast: Thundaga or Electon, can be used, but they must have very high potency due to Omega's tremendous Spirit.

The player should primarily attack Omega's legs to break them and render it vulnerable, but the player can also attack its head and back if needed. Though Omega receives double damage when its antenna is attacked, it should be hit sparingly as a continued onslaught on it will drive Omega berserk. If it becomes berserk, it is advised to attack Omega from a range with magic, warp-strikes, or switch to Prompto and use his firearms, as Omega's incessant melee attacks in this state makes close ranged combat dangerous.

It may be preferable to use the standard Armiger over Armiger Unleashed as Noctis can easily fall in the Danger state in the latter if the player has trouble avoiding Omega's attacks. After Omega is made vulnerable, the player can activate Armiger and barrage its head to make it pop out for a cross chain that can deal up to 99,999 damage if executed perfectly.

Once the player has practiced enough to confidently avoid Omega’s attacks, using Armiger Unleashed will speed up the battle due to its higher overall DPS. It is best to use the finishing combos—especially the Armiger Vortex and Armiger Onslaught—whenever possible as they allow Noctis to deal significant damage while making him invulnerable for their duration. Unleashed techniques should be used liberally for the same reason, with particular emphasis to Legacy of Lucii as Omega will receive significant damage from this technique despite its last hit being light-elemental, which heals Omega. Once Armiger Unleashed ends, the player should swap out The Founder King's Sigil with the Armiger Accelerator and attack Omega until the Armiger bar is refilled. It is recommended to use a dagger when doing so, as it replenishes the Armiger bar the fastest. Once the bar is completely refilled, the player should re-equip The Founder King's Sigil and active Armiger Unleashed again to repeat the process.

Musical themes[]

The second phase of "Omega"

Omega (Final Fantasy XV) (4)

The track played during the beginning of the battle is "Omega". Once Omega's HP drops below 50%, a new orchestral arrangement of the Final Fantasy V tracks "Battle 1" and "Lenna's Theme" will play. A third, unique theme will play whenever it is in berserk state.

After defeating Omega, the series's trademark victory fanfare will play.

Etymology[]

[view· edit· purge]Omega (capital: Ω, lowercase: ω; Greek Ωμέγα) is the twenty-fourth and last letter of the Greek alphabet, representing a longer Latin "o" as well as the "oo" and "ou" IPA vowel clusters. In mathematics, it is synonymous with a set's end or limit. In physics, uppercase omega is the SI abbreviation for the ohm, a unit of electrical resistance.
