How scary is Haunted Mansion 2023? ›

Haunted Mansion's talented cast makes the movie a pleasant enough destination, although it's neither scary nor funny enough to wholeheartedly recommend. Haunted Mansion is a fun blend of horror and comedy with a great cast and a story that'll be extra entertaining for fans of the ride that inspired it.

Principal photography ran from October 4, 2021, to late February 2022 in New Orleans, Louisiana and Atlanta, Georgia. Production also occurred at Trilith Studios. The visual effects were handled by DNEG and Industrial Light & Magic.

“Haunted Mansion,” rated PG-13 for “some thematic elements and scary action,” is based on the Disneyland ride of the same name. The movie features a mother, played by Rosario Dawson, and her son, played by Chase Dillon, who move into a haunted home in Louisiana and learn they cannot leave.

Tater Tot, the cat in the final scene, symbolizes closure for Ben and represents a ghostly message from his deceased wife, Alyssa, allowing him to move on and potentially find love with Gabbie.

As such, Haunted Mansion is a fine film. At least, that's what my inner film critic would say… Haunted Mansion is also one of the few movies out there that has me split between film appreciation and my Christian beliefs. As a Christian, I actually cannot recommend this film.

In terms of scariness this film has infrequent jump scares, when they do appear they are scary (the scariest is at the beginning) the music adds creepy vibes and the ghosts themselves do have scary designs Characters are chased and axes are thrown and the hatbox ghost is menacing.

Though It All Comes Down To Showmanship Which I Feel The 2023 Film Has In Spades And In Terms Of The Execution It Makes The Admission Price Worthwhile As It Feels More Like The Ride Come To Life. Or Death If You Prefer. Winner: “Haunted Mansion 2023.”

There are no height restrictions on Pirates of the Caribbean or Haunted Mansion, and both can accommodate lap-riding children. While your son may be permitted to ride, you might also consider whether either of these two attractions are a bit too frightening for him. Both take place in very dimly lit surroundings.
